USTR says WTO reform efforts fail to address root of the problem: China

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative's annual report to Congress on China's compliance with World Trade Organization rules dismisses the reform efforts of a handful of WTO members because it says their proposals do not adequately address the threat China's economic model poses to the multilateral trading system. "[T]he recent proposals by various WTO members for WTO reform seem only marginally focused on the China problem," states the report, released on Monday. "While those reform proposals potentially could address some behaviors that make China an irresponsible member of the WTO, they do not directly address the serious threat that China and its state-led, mercantilist trade regime poses for individual WTO members and the multilateral trading system."
