Deliberate synthesis and structural characterization of a scorpionate-supported cerium(III) pentasulfide complex

A scorpionate-supported lanthanide pentasulfide complex has been synthesized in a deliberate manner starting from in situ-prepared K2S5. Reaction of K2S5 with in situ-formed "CeI2(Tp(iPr2))(THF)(n)" (Tp(iPr2) = hydro-tris(3,5-diisopropylpyrazolyl)borate) afforded the yellow-brown cerium(III) pentasulfide complex Ce(S-5)(Tp(iPr2)) (3,5-(i)Pr(2)Hpz) in 62% isolated yield (3,5-(i)Pr(2)Hpz = 3,5-diisopropylpyrazole). The title compound has been fully characterized, including single-crystal X-ray structural analysis.
