Building on silica sand: Vietnam's glass industry

Vietnam's 2,560km-long, mainly flat coastline is host to many large alluvial silica sand deposits. The country's central coast region - from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa - which skirts the western side of the South China Sea is particularly rich in silica sand resources. To date, eight coastal deposits have been identified, with total reserves of 95.1 million tonnes of silica sand.
