Export Performance of Indian Leather Industry

India’s export of leather,leather products and footwear for the financial year,April 2018-March 2019 has reached US$ 5690.99 million as against US$ 5740.98 million recorded during the previous fiscal year which represents a small decline of 0.87%.However,in rupee terms,the value of exports has increased from Rs.37,0034.14 million achieved during the period April 2017-2018 to Rs.39,793.04 million in 2018-2019.This shows a positive growth rate of 7.54%.Despite the overall stable performance of the industry during the fiscal April 2018-March 2019,when one analyses the individual performance of various segments of the industry,it is noticed,in dollar terms,export of finished leather has declined by-17.44% in this period going from US$ 874.24 million to US$ 721.73.So also,the footwear components and leather garments registered a negative growth rate of-4^82% and-9 73% respectively.Leather goods which contributes nearly 25% of total export revenue has recorded US$ 1434.24 million showing 5.01% positive growth.The leather footwear exports registered a meager growth rate of only 0.07%.The value has increased from US$ 2193.86 million in the prev.ous fiscal to US$ 2195.47million.Non-leather footwear exports grew from US$ 296.91 million to US$ 392.63 million thereby showing a growth of 32.24%.
