Synthesis and Characterization of Derivatives of Pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile and Their Biological Screening

Some new 2-(substituted)-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,6-dihydro-1-methyl-6-oxopyrimidine-5carbonitriles (2- 9) have been prepared by condensation of 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,6-dihydro-1-methyl-2(methylthio)-6-oxopyrimidine-5-carbonitrile) with different pharmacologically active species. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their antibiotic activities against different Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria at Worldwide Antimicrobial Discovery Initiative, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
