Pseuderanthemum arunachalense, a new species from eastern Himalaya, India and typification of some names in Pseuderanthemum (Acanthaceae)

The genus Pseuderanthemum Radik, comprises about 125 species, distributed in tropics and subtropics area of world (POWO, 2019). So far, 7 recognized species have been documented for the Indian flora. During a botanical field trip in November 2016 in the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh,eastern Himalayan state of India, an unidentifiable and interesting species of Pseuderanthemum was collected from Nirijuli, Papum Pare district at 165 m altitude. Studies on the collected material showed that it is allied to P. leptanthum (Clarke) Lindau. Detailed studies of the herbarium specimens (including types) of Pseuderanthemum species of India and adjacent countries, and perusal of relevant literature (Clarke, 1884; Hansen, 1989; Karthikeyan etal., 2009; Hu etal., 2011) proved this to be a new species hitherto unknown to science, which is described here as a novelty.
