When anaerobic adhesives come into contact with drinking water

Anaerobic adhesives are used as thread sealants or, for example, for glueing into place the connective joints in water taps. Until now it has not been possible to carry out a hygienic assessment of anaerobic adhesives that come into contact with drinking water in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of the German Environment Agency (UBA). The positive list in the agency's coating guideline, which includes air-curing adhesives such as epoxy resins, does not cover the typical formulations of anaerobic adhesives. In addition, there is no possibility of testing these products using the migration test specified in the DIN EN 12873-1 and -2 standards.
