Batteries are in greater demand that ever before. One problem, however, is their high manufacturing costs,which are due, among other things, to the slow process of coating electrode films. The electrodes in a lithium ion battery must be coated to allow lithium to be stored and released again. For this purpose, a paste of active material is applied to an electrode film of copper or aluminium. Intermittent (sectional) electrode patterns are also used. These designs have a strip of uncoated film between coated sections which later serves as an electrode lead. In order for the batteries to work reliably, it is also important that the coated sections have precise starting and stopping edges.
