LYGODIUM JAPONICUM (CLIMBING FERN) -FROM JAMMU, INDIA

Lygodium japonicum (Thunb.) Swartz - a climbing fern grows mainly on temperate to tropical areas (Murtaza el al., 2004). As per recent classification genus Lygodium belongs 1o family Lygodiaceae and contain more than 40 species (Murtaza et al., 2004).During the pteridophytic exploration of District Rajouri (33°23' to 33°38' N and 74° 18' to 74Q30' E), Lygodium japonicum was collected from Samsamat (altitude: 1100m); habitat: shady dense forest and moist places; date of collection and voucher number: 2.9.2012 & 0035 and collector (s) name: Shagufta, Rinchen and Tanwir). The identification was done by Late H.C. Pande (BST, Dehradun) and further authenticated by S.P. Khullar. Identified voucher specimens have been deposited in the Herbarium sectionof the Centre for Biodiversity Studies, BGSB University, Rajouri, J&K. The present communication provides further information regarding the distribution record of Lygodium japonicum from Jammu region.
