Drobiotics have echoed an extensive history of promoting well being status worldwide. The healing concept of probiotic is not a new discovery as it prominently figured in ancient Hindu and Biblical scriptures which advocated the curative role of traditional fermented foods. However, probiotics as a concept acquired scientific insight when Russian scientist E. Metchnikoff proposed the theory of longevity and attributed the long life of Bulgarians to consumption of fermented products (Metchnikoff, 1908). During the past few years, the concept that novel functional foods by incorporating probiotics and prebiotics leads to modulation of gut microbiota for improving gut health is gaining momentum. As a result, the probiotic functional food market has grown enormously across the world due to their immense health promoting potentials which perfectly fits into the famous quote of Father of Medicine — Hippocrates "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food". Moreover, recent gut microbiota studieshave also opened new avenues by highlighting the key role of intestinal microbes on health exploring personalized healthcare strategies based on probiotics for restoring gut balance disturbed as a result of invasion of pathogens and inflammation.
