Hexamethylenetetramine-bromine complex (HMTAB) on wet silica: Oxidation of alcohols and sulfides

Secondary or benzylic alcohols and sulfides are converted into their corresponding carbonyl and sulfoxide compounds efficiently using wet silica supported HMTAB complex at room temperature. A great number of oxidizing agents can effect the conversion of alcohols and sulfides into carbonyl and sulfoxide compounds, respectively.
