Overcoming the Problem of 101-C Tube Bundle Lifting by Modifying the Lifting System in Ammonia Plant

At KRIBHCO ammonia plant, secondary waste heat exchanger (102-C) top dome bend was obstructing the lateral shifting of primary waste heater exchanger (101-CB) tube bundle over 102-C, whenever 101-CB tube bundle is replaced. To allow the shifting of 101-CB tube bundle above the 102-C, we were making required room by removing 102-C dome cover. This 102-C dome cover opening, box up and gasket replacement job was resulting in increased maintenance cost & job duration. To overcome the problem, existing 40-T capacity 101-C tube bundle lifting system was modified to gain the lifting margin required for shifting of 101-CB bundle above 102-C without removing its dome cover. The complete modification job including design & fabrication of required items was carried through internal resources.
