EFFECT OF STAGGERED SOWING ON THE INCIDENCE OF OKRA SHOOT AND FRUIT BORER (EARIAS SPP.)

摘要

Okra shoot and fruit borer (Earias spp.) is one of the major pests causing 52.33 to 70.75% damage (Pareek and Bhargava, 2003). Krishnaiah (1980) also reported that losses due to okra fruit borer {Earias vitella) amount to 49 to 74%. In northern West Bengal, its damage to fruits is up to 32.22% resulting 41.10% loss in yield (Ghosh et al, 1999), and in general the overall pest damage leads to 48.97% loss in yield (Kanwar and Ameta, 2007). Okra cannot tolerate very low and very high temperature, with low humidity and the susceptibility to insect pests is greatly influenced by the date of sowing. Hence, the present study which evaluates the effect of staggered sowing on the fruit borer incidence and yield of okra.
