Commentary on 'which women are at an increased risk of a caesarean section or an instrumental vaginal birth in the UK: An exploration within the Millennium Cohort Study'

Essex and colleagues are to be congratulated on making excellent use of the UK Millennium Cohort Study. Their work highlights some important issues, worthy of further discussion. For example, they report comparisons of mode of delivery by 'ethnicity'. This can be defined as 'belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition' (oxforddictionaries.com/defmition/english/ethnicity). It is not the same as 'race', defined by the same source as 'a division of humankind having distinct physical characteristics'.
