This little book is an easily read introduction to the important and fascinating subject: treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The first chapter gives an excellent review of the various definitions of TRD. This is done clearly and in an authoritative way. In the second chapter, the authors propose a new nomenclature for TRD, namely 'malignant, pernicious or virulent depression'. These two chapters could, however, benefit from a more thorough editing as several repetitions are found.
