False glimmer of hope on automotive transition

The news sent a sigh of relief through already-struggling communities and businesses associated with the automotive manufacturing industry. But as it became apparent that the government was not proposing to reform the ATS in the process, relief quickly turned into disappointment. Rather than representing a recognition that the ATS is crucial to supporting manufacturing businesses to 2017, or to a successful transition for the auto supply chain post-2017, the Government's move reflected the simple fact that its bill was destined to be blocked in the Senate.
