Inhibion of azoxymethane-induced ra ACF by dietary feeding of refined oils refined oils with or without terpenes from Hassaku(Citrus hassaku)

The modifying effect of dietary refined hassaku (Citrus hassaku) oil and refined hassaku oil without terpenes on the development of azoxymethane (AOM)-induced colonic aberrant crypt foci (ACF) was investigated in male F344 rats.Rats were given subcutaneous injection of AOM (20 mg/kg body weight) once a week for 2 weeks to induce ACF.They also received the experimental diets containing 0.1% or 1% test compounds for 4 weeks,starting one week before the first dosing of AOM.Dietary administration of refined hassaku oil and refined hassaku ol without terpenes caused significant reduction in thefrequency of ACF at a does of 1%.These finding might suggest possible chemopreventive ability of refined hassaku oil and refined hassaku oil without terpenes in rat colon carcinogenesis
