摘要

INTRODUCTION: The assessment of injury patterns from deadly mishaps contributes to the ongoing improvement of safety systems in traffic medicine in general and in aviation medicine in particular. The present study was aimed to identify weak spots in the cockpit design of sporting aircraft leading to head injuries associated with hard landings. METHODS: The forensic medical files of 20 decedents from 13 sporting aircraft accidents in south-eastern Bavaria over the recent 7.5 years were assessed. Head injury patterns were studied. Correlation with fundamental biomechanical principles and the results from the technical accident investigation were compiled.
