Fellowship review: Interface reconstructive cosmetic surgery fellowship at leicester

I had the privilege of spending 4 months doing a United Kingdom Interface Reconstructive Cosmetic Fellowship, involving the NHS and private hospitals in Leicester. This is a truly multidisciplinary fellowship involving plastic surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery, oculoplastic surgery, ENT surgery, and breast surgery. The training is flexible and completely led by the training needs of the fellow. This fellowship is only open to UK trainees, completing their training on a national training scheme. I would typically start the week by spending the Monday in the maxillofacial theater learning the fundamentals of orthog-nathic surgery. Oculoplastic clinics were on Tuesday mornings, followed by a busy theater list involving the Ml range of reconstructive surgery around the eyelids. I would then spend Wednesday and Thursday with 2 experienced and successful plastic surgeons, who provided the full range of cosmetic surgery. Friday was reserved for time with ENT surgeons, learning septorhinoplasty. All the trainers took great pride in teaching and ensured the fellow was part of the team. Training is not only limited to the named persons on the fellowship, but has inbuilt flexibility to allow one to get involved in any interesting case, reconstructive or cosmetic.
