Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio arrived at the Mining Indaba to tell investors his country was starting its mining industry with a blank slate and welcomed miners, as long as they proved trustworthy, credible and patient. Bio came to power in 2018 promising he would clean up the country's mining industry which had become largely synonymous with blood diamonds and other illegal mining activity.
