Rough Time for Japanese Textile Machinery Makers

The consolidated April-September 2019 business performance of Japanese textile machinery makers indicated setbacks caused by U.S.-China trade friction and other factors.Toyota Industries Corp.reported a 16% fall in textile machinery sales,due mainly to decreases in the sales of weaving machinery and yarn quality measurement instruments,and profits in this sector dropped 64.8%.Sales of airjet looms amounted to 3,500,as compared with 4,100 in the year before,and the forecast for the whole fiscal year is 6,300 (9,000 sold in the previous fiscal year).
