World's Fiber Production in 2017

According to a Japan Chemical Fibers Association report on 2017 worldwide fiber production, the production of major fibers (estimate) increased by 5.6% compared to 2016 production to 93.71 million tons. Production increased for the second consecutive year, and reached an all-time high for the first time in three years since 2014. Man-made fiber production grew by 4.0% to 66.94 million tons, thus reaching a record high for the ninth straight year. Of this, the production of synthetic fibers (excluding olefin fibers) rose by 4.1% to 61.58 million tons, and that of cellulosic fibers (excluding acetate tow) increased by 2.5% to 5.36 million tons.
