PNG gas find boosts LNG expansion hopes

ExxonMobil and Australian independent Oil Search have found gas at their P’nyang gas field in Papua New Guinea (PNG), potentially supporting plans for additional LNG capacity in the country. The P’nyang South-2 well in PNG’s Western Province discovered gas, as expected, confirming the southeast extension of the field. “Oil Search is confident that the well’s primary objective — to migrate 2C contingent gas resource to 1C contingent resource in this area to support the marketing and financing activities for LNG expansion — will be met,” managing director Peter Botten says.
