US LNG exports rose by more than 50pc in August compared with a year earlier, to 138.4bn ft~3 (3.9bn m~3), although this was down by 11.7pc from July. Japan was the largest buyer, importing 21bn ft~3, followed by Spain, Mexico and South Korea. China, which imported nearly 200,000t of US LNG in August 2018, took none in August 2019 - it has not taken a cargo since April, following the im- position of a 25pc import tarif by the US. Sabine Pass accounted for 24 of the 44 cargoes, followed by Corpus Christi with 10, Cove Point with six and Cameron with four. The total was down from 51 cargoes in July but up from 30 a year earlier.
