Total expects LNG market to tighten

The global LNG market will tighten early in the next decade even if demand growth slows compared with recent years, Total chief executive Patrick Pouyanne says. Declining Asian demand, coupled with an increase in LNG production capac- ity, has created a “feeling of oversupply” in the LNG market, Pouyanne says. Low prices have stimulated demand in the short term, but “prices will not stay low forever”, he says. European and Asian gas prices are expected to rise this winter from the multi-year lows seen in recent months, but to remain well below the levels seen in 2016-18, fuctuating in a range of $5-8/mn Btu until at least 2021.
