On April 19, 1995, bomb blast left the Alfred P.Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Okla., as fragile as a house of cards. For rescuers to get to potential survivors, it fell to structural engineers to figure out how to move aside precariously dangling concrete slabs, support crushed floors, and reinforce columns suddenly stripped of their supports.
