The ESBL bacteria producer has posed a great threat to the use of many classes of antibiotics particularly cephalosporins. There are indications that poor outcome occurs when patients with serious illness due to ESBL producing pathogens are treated with antibiotics to which the organism is resistant. This study is aimed to isolate and identify ESBL producer Enterobactericae and its resistance pattern to different antibiotics in addition to evaluate different techniques which used for this purpose. Eighteen clinical isolates were recovered from different specimens collected from Patients attending King Fahad hospital, Al Ehsaa, Saudi arabia. All isolates were identified according to the colonial morphology and phenotypically by Microscan Walkway system which also used to detect the ESBL producers as following: 13 E. coli (72.2%), 4 K. pneumoniae (22.2%) and 1 Providenciae (5.5%). The antimicrobial susceptibility were done using Kirby -Bauer disc diffusion method and showed that all isolates were resistant to Ampiciln, Cefazolin, Ceftazidime, Ceftrixone and Cefepime while its highly sensitive to other antibiotics such as Imipenem, Amikacin and Meropenem. All E. coli isolates were sensitive to Cotrimoxazole and Tazocin, while K. pneumonia and P. stuartii were resistant to Cotrimoxazole and sensitive to Tazocin. All isolates were resistant to Aztronam antibiotic.
