Bacterial vaginosis in a cohort of Danish pregnant women: prevalence and relationship with preterm delivery, low birthweight and perinatal infections

Sir, We were interested in the article by Svare et al. regarding bacterial vaginosis and preterm delivery. However, they make no mention of the role of short cervix. Cervical dysfunction has been recognised as a small but important contributor to preterm delivery, particularly in the late second trimester and very early third trimester. Several investigators have shown an increased risk of preterm delivery among women with cervical effacement detected on pelvic examination.
