Cuba’s state-owned Cupet is considering a farm-in request from Angola’s state- owned Sonangol for onshore block 9 in the north of the country. Sonangol agreed late last year to take a 70pc interest in the block, which lies 140km east of Havana, from Australian independent Melbana, which would keep 30pc. The 2,344km~2 block contains close to 640mn bl of recoverable resources, according to Melbana, although Cupet has said it treats this fgure “with caution”. Melbana was awarded the block in 2015.
