China's Taiyuan city, located in the major coal-producing prov?ince of Shanxi, has banned the sale and transportation of coal by individuals and companies in a bid to improve air quality. The ban took effect from the start of October, Taiyuan's coal bureau said, and affects the city's own consumption. Only major power and steel plants are still allowed to buy, trans?port or burn coal.
