CSX, Illinois basin prices fall amid oversupply

Coal prices in parts of the US fell last week as domestic de- mand languished amid low natural gas prices. Utilities are burning less coal this year as low gas prices have eroded coal margins. This has resulted in utilities building coal inventories at their power plants and putting off spot coal purchases or requests for proposals for longer-term contracts.
