Coal revenue at eastern US railroad CSX slid by a fourth in the first quarter on lower domestic and international demand prompted by the Covid-19 induced slump. Measures to control the spread of Covid-19 took effect at the end of the quarter and have pressured traffic, CSX said. The railroad is reaching out weekly to customers to stay on top of supply chain needs, but executives declined to predict when volumes may recover.
