CS X, Illinois basin prices fall amid oversupply

Coal prices in parts of the US fell this week as domestic demand for the fuel languished amid low natural gas prices. In Appalachia, CSX rail-originated coal with 12,500 Btu/lb fell by 20￠-80￠/short ton for shipments in 2020. The secondand third-quarter prices fell by 80￠/st to $45.20/st and $45.60/ st, respectively. Prices for Illinois basin coal with 11,500 Btu/lb fell by 50￠- 85￠/st to $32.50-$36.65/st fob barge for shipments through 2022.
