FirstEnergy, Murray Energy settle coal dispute

Generator FirstEnergy Solutions and US coal producer Murray Energy have settled a dispute over a coal supply contract for the power producer’s Bruce Mansfield Station in Stratton, Ohio. Murray has agreed to end and replace a previous 23-year agreement to deliver coal to the plant with a contract that ends on 31 December 2019 and requires FirstEnergy to buy "significantly less" than it had been required to previously, according to documents filed on 13 November with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Murray also will dispose of the station’s coal ash at a “favorable price.”
