TvA settles Gallatin coal ash dispute

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has reached a $650mn agreement with state regulators over coal ash remediation at its Gallatin plant. The utility and the Tennessee Department of Environ- ment and Conservation filed a proposed consent order with the Chancery Court for the State of Tennessee yesterday. TVA agreed to close active impoundments at the Gallatin plant and remove 11.5mn-12mn cubic yards of coal combustion residuals.
