The spot fob Indonesia palm kernel shell (PKS) price rose by 94c/t on the week to $94.36/t on Wednesday, notching up another record high since Argus began the assessment in May 2017. Fresh Japanese demand emerged as oil refner Showa Shell issued a tender this week for its subsidiary, Keihin Biomass Power, in Kanagawa prefecture, west of Tokyo. The tender sought 30,000t of PKS for April-June delivery.

7. Commodity prices have risen sharply since 2006. This may benefit developing countries specialized on primary exports, but poverty may increase. Uruguay is a net exporter of primary products and a net importer of oil. With the aim of analyzing the impact of soaring commodity prices and policy options, we apply a CGE model and microsimulations.
