Danish utility Orsted’s biomass-fred heat and power generation fell in the frst quarter, as mild weather dampened heating demand. Power output across Orsted’s combined heat and power (CHP) plants — covering biomass, gas and coal — was 1.6TWh in January-March, a fall of 15.8pc on the year. And heat output from CHPs was 3.1TWh in the frst quarter, down by 16.2pc on the year. Orsted provided no fuel breakdown in the generation fgures, but noted that fossil fuel generation in the frst quarter fell faster on the year, by 10 percentage points, whereas biomass-fred output fell by only fve percentage points on the year.
