Orsted 1Q19 biomass burn down on warm weather

Danish state-controlled utility Orsted produced less heat and power from biomass year on year in the first quarter of 2019,as warm weather weighed on heating demand in Denmark.Heat generation from bioenergy-including wood pellets,wood chips,and agricultural residues such as straw-reached 3.7TWh in the first three months of 2019,down by 23pc year on year.And power generation from bioenergy was down by 42pc at 1.9TWh in the first quarter.Orsted consumed 20pc fewer wood pellets year on year,burning 681,000t in the first quarter.And its wood chip burn rose by 5pc year on year to 270,000t in the same period.Orsted's overall biomass consumption fell by 15pc to 1.03mn t in the first quarter of 2019 compared with a year earlier.The remaining 83,000t of biomass burned was straw and other agricultural residues.
