The UK’s biomass generation rose by 22pc on the year in the frst quarter of 2020 and fuel increased its share of the UK power mix despite February shutdowns. Biomass-fred output rose to a daily average of 2.33GW in the frst quarter, up from 1.91GW a year earlier, data from UK utility Drax and Imperial College London show (see table). Similarly, biomass generation rose by 21pc to an average of 2.31GW in March.
