Wood chip loading at the Latvian port of Liepaja remained down on the year in February as a result of a mild winter, but loadings showed signs of a recovery and rose on the month. The port handled 32,000t of wood chips in February, down from 50,000t in February last year, but 60pc higher than the fve-year February average of 20,000t. Loading was also 68.4pc higher month on month. High rainfall in the Baltic forests in January hampered sourcing and impacted throughput at the ports.
