Canadian wood pellet producer Pinnacle Renewable Energy sold 478,000t of wood pellets in the second quarter of the year, lifting sales by 24pc on the year, despite “a challenging period” for feedstock supply in British Columbia (BC). The sales increase was supported by production from its 125,000 t/yr Smithers plant in BC and its 270,000 t/yr Aliceville facility in Alabama. Smithers started production in late 2018 and is expected to reach full production capacity this quarter. Pinnacle purchased a 70pc stake in the Aliceville plant from US wood pellet producer Westervelt in September 2018. Both plants “are expected to continue to achieve production levels above the commissioning curve established,” Pinnacle said.
