European wood chips: Slight spot increase

The spot price for industrial European wood chips delivered into northwest Europe (NWE) rose by 5￠/GJ on the week to €5.85/GJ cif NWE, on a small increase in winter demand and freight costs. Spot wood chip demand remained unseasonably low in the week to Wednesday, as large demand projects were further delayed, and stocks remained high across Europe. But there were some “pockets of demand” from some district heating units in Central Europe, a trader said.
