Japan uses more biomass in January

Japan’s consumption of biomass for power generation rose in January on the back of a stronger requirement from wholesalers and other non-utility users. Biomass consumption totalled 200,288t in January, up by 3.5pc from the same month last year, according to the latest data from the economy, trade and industry ministry. Demand from wholesalers and other users increased by 6.7pc to 180,554t over the period, outweighing an 18.7pc fall in consumption by Japan’s main utilities to 19,734t.
