Brazil biomass energy sales surge in August

Energy sales by biomass power plants in Brazil jumped 11pc year on year to 17.4TWh in January-August 2018 thanks to dry weather that accelerated the sugar cane harvest, leading cane industry association Unica said. In July, sugar and ethanol mills produced 3.07TWh, or an average of 4,121MW, the first time that the cane sector's electricity sales surpassed an average of 4,000MW, Brazil’s power clearing house CCEE said.
