EIA expects lower US biomass energy consumption

The EIA expects the US to consume 1.96 quadrillion btu (quads) of wood biomass energy in 2018 and 1.97 quads in 2019, down from the 2 quads consumed in 2017, it said in its January shortterm energy outlook. The majority of wood consumption for energy in the US is in the industrial sector. Consumption of wood biomass in the industrial sector is forecast to fall by 4.4pc year on year in 2018 to 1.238 quadrillion btu (quads) and then to hold steady at 1.239 quads in 2019. Industrial consumption was 1.295 quads in 2017.
