Komipo sees new biomass fuels replacing imports

South Korean state-controlled power utility Komipo is accelerating development of domestic biomass fuels under the government’s new renewable energy programme, including a blend of sewage sludge and wood fibres that undercuts the cost of imported wood pellets. The new sewage-sludge blend is made into a solid pellet and has similar properties to traditional biomass pellets, including an energy content of about 3,800 kcal/kg, Komipo said.
