Atlantic industrial basin: Cif ARA continues climb

The spot price for wood pellets delivered into Amsterdam- Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) gained $1.04/t to close at $170.74/t on Wednesday, as continued near-term demand, particularly from the heating sector, and weak spot supply helped push the index above $170/t for the first time since April 2015. Multiple deals concluded in the week, with further discussions underway as buyers sought further near-term volumes. A spot deal concluded for pellets originally destined for a consumption project still in the commissioning stages. The price attached was in the low to mid-$170s/t. A fob southeast US spot deal was done in the low-$140s/t delivered into Europe, for 5,000t of wood pellets which will be loaded as a part cargo on a larger vessel. And a swap deal including pellets of US origin concluded in the week, but prices were not attached.
