Wood pellet shipments from Latvian port of Riga declined by 4.7pc year on year in 2017 but wood chip loadings increased. Wood pellet loading at the port fell from 1,438,000t in 2016 to 1,370,600t last year — the lowest since 2014, when 1,025,300 t was loaded. “The number of wood pellets loaded in 2017 was affected by the unfavourable weather conditions at the end of last year, creating a shortage of raw material for the pellet plants,” Riga’s port authority said.
