The spot price for wood pellets delivered in Amsterdam- Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) rose by $5.25/t to close at $169.70/t on Wednesday, as a deal concluded in the low $170s/t supported strong gains week on week, with multiple buyers seeking spot volumes in a tightly-supplied market. A European utility sold a 32,000 t handysize cargo in the ARA area for January delivery and another was reportedly under discussion at the $170-175/t level. US producers also put offer prices at $175/t although few had volumes available. But the market was tightest until February, with demand in March and April expected to ease somewhat, weighing on the spot price compared to the prompt deal. The spot window runs until 10 April.
