Drax rail hitch cuts biomass deliveries to units 2 and 3

A fire has caused an unplanned outage at Drax’s rail unloading facilities and restricted wood pellet deliveries to its Selby power plant, leading the company to cut biomass burn at two units for more than three weeks. Drax’s 645MW biomass-fired units 2 and 3 at Selby power plant will be off line for 25 days from 22 December to 15 Januayr. The unplanned outage began on 15 December. Power generation has been reduced to “optimise supplies”, Drax said. Some wood pellet supplies are still being delivered by rail and truck.
